This is the first chapter in a new series of whiskies, all about celebrating those who have shaped Laphroaig.
Volume 1 tells the story of Donald Johnston, the older of two brothers who founded the Laphroaig distillery in 1815 and created the iconic Laphroaig whisky we all know today. Their bold venture is brought to life through illustrations by award-winning British artist Bill Bragg, which adorn the packaging and accompanying booklet.
Such a remarkable story deserves an extraordinary whisky, and the one which was chosen has been resting in our warehouse for 33 years, waiting for perfect moment to bottle. Matured in a selection of American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak sherry-seasoned hogsheads, the whisky is bottled fixed strength for optimum character.
The result is a complex character, bringing notes of sweet desserts, gentle sherry and savoury peat smoke all together in perfect harmony.
